Waldorf Spring Music Festival

This past weekend I joined my pal Carrie of Temptress Yarn to sell our wares in at the Waldorf Music Festival up in Chestnut Ridge. The day was lovely, music fantastic, food better than most fairs and the sells were awful! However, I did have the chance to see the community in action and wished I had brought my husband and children along to see. The children in this community have no worries about being affected by Nature-Deficit Disorder.

There was a little roost at the edge of the forest where the children ran off into the woods. I saw sword fights and shoot outs. The fairy wing merchant had sold to both boys and girls alike. It was like being in Neverland.

It had rain and rain and rain and rain the day before the fest. There was black mud everywhwere... so all the kids took their shoes off.

Painted faces and tie-dyed fingers

The grass was a beautiful kelly green when we arrived in the morning but the black mud made its way up from beneath throughout the day.

Tom Chapin, Lucy Kaplansky, Mustard's Retreat, Which Way East and Bill Bindlestick played music all day along with a couple puppet shows by Grieder Family Players.

Our booth looks sparse I suppose but we had a lot of stuff. We needed a bright sign So we didn't look so much like a garage sale.

I thought these would be a hit but...

Waldorf Assembly

w

For the past year I have been attending a foundation studies class at a local Waldorf school. As a result of our hard work, I was part of an end of year assembly to demonstrate our progress and a ceremony for the graduation of the 2nd year foundation studies group. This was such a wonderful year of progress for me in my art and family life and was exactly what I needed after the loss of my mother. I hemmed and haaaed about taking the courses but finally with a little push from my pal Regina, I jumped into (what I made out to be) a cold pool of water that was actually warm and inviting. It was a difficult start but sometimes through the difficulty comes true growth.

Our Eurythmy composition involved copper rods

We recited a poem by Herman Hesse and performed a pentatonic recorder recital.

Daisy Dog!

We have a new girl in the house! (yes my poor hubby is even more the minority in this house)...Her name is Daisy and she is a sweet little 1 year old pit mix, but don't judge this book by the cover or you'd consider her pit traits to be what... untrustworthy and frightening. She is quite the opposite. Honestly when my generous brother in-law and sister in-law and their animal loving children foster another pit mix or horse of a dog I am weary of going over to their house with my toddlers (I worked pretty hard to make them so I am a little protective), but the second Anthony and I met this girl on Saturday night, she was the universe's answer to my request for new doggie addition to our home. I knew she would work out beautifully in our home. Our Norman girl is getting up in years (13 years) and seems to be slowing down a bit so I began feeling the need to find a new dog to liven her up a bit. Norman always kept my ol Rowdy dog going strong until his doggie alsheimers took over him and we had to put him down 2 years ago. So now its Normans turn for some puppy rejuvenation.

Me and Rowdy dog in July 01
So Miss. Daisy is a beautiful brindle colored 30lb terrier mix and amazingly has alot of the same physical traits as our beloved Rowdy who was an Austrailian Kelpie. Her personality is completely different. She is meek and timid and very sweet (she thinks she is a lap do like Rowdy did), not destructive or ill-mannered. She is house broken and very light on her feet.

As for Ms. Norman, I have seen her tail wagging (which was becoming a rarity and showing an interest in Daisy's toys). She is also helping little Daisy adjust to us big humans which frighten her a bit. Norman has always done well to be the boss even when Rowdy was around so she is taking care of Daisy and showing her the ropes. Daisy has no problem with my babes and is very gentle with them. I am so pleased, I don't think I can express it in a blog!

Ahhh Spring

"Every Day You Play"By Pablo Neruda

Every day you play with the light of the universe.

Subtle visitor, you arrive in the flower and the water.

You are more than this white head that I hold tightly

as a cluster of fruit, every day, between my hands.

You are like nobody since I love you.

Let me spread you out among yellow garlands.

Who writes your name in letters of smoke among the stars of the south?

Oh let me remember you as you were before you existed.

Suddenly the wind howls and bangs at my shut window.

The sky is a net crammed with shadowy fish.

Here all the winds let go sooner or later, all of them.

The rain takes off her clothes.

The birds go by, fleeing.

The wind. The wind.

I can contend only against the power of men.

The storm whirls dark leavesand turns loose all the boats that were moored last night to the sky.

You are here. Oh, you do not run away.

You will answer me to the last cry.

Cling to me as though you were frightened.

Even so, at one time a strange shadow ran through your eyes.

Now, now too, little one, you bring me honeysuckle,

and even your breasts smell of it.

While the sad wind goes slaughtering butterflies

I love you, and my happiness bites the plum of your mouth.

How you must have suffered getting accustomed to me,

my savage, solitary soul, my name that sends them all running.

So many times we have seen the morning star burn, kissing our eyes,

and over our heads the gray light unwind in turning fans.

My words rained over you, stroking you.

A long time I have loved the sunned mother-of-pearl of your body.

I go so far as to think that you own the universe.

I will bring you happy flowers from the mountains, bluebells, dark hazels, and rustic baskets of kisses.

I want to do with you what spring does with the cherry trees.
